Teddy Time

Simon had a couple vaccines yesterday, so he wasn't in the mood for a fashion shoot today.  But even though he's tuckered out from making so many new antibodies, he still had enough energy to make a new friend:

Hoppy Two Months

In celebration of Simon being two months old -- and to have a place to put him so Mommy can make herself a sandwich once in a while -- Bradley and I bought a "Hoppy Days" bouncy seat, which Simon loves.

We realized quickly that the floor was not the best place for the chair...

so we currently have it set up the crib, which Simon isn't sleeping in yet.

He still hasn't grasped the toys with his hands, but I'm sure that's just around the corner.  Our little frog is growing up!
 

Fashion Friday: Little Swimmer

Yes, I know this is Saturday, but we were too tired after getting home yesterday from our whirlwind trip to post anything.  Simon met so many relatives during our cross-country drive this week that now he seems bored with only Bradley and myself holding him!

Anyway, back to the post.  Welcome to a belated edition of Fashion Friday.  This week's topic: swimwear.  Or, rather, using an empty diaper cover as do-it-yourself swimwear.  Luckily Simon didn't leave any presents behind in the pool for Aunt Carolyn to clean up!

Fashion Friday: Muscle Man

Welcome to another edition of Fashion Friday.  This week's topic: muscle shirts.

A couple weeks before Simon was born, Bradley and I bought a pack of sleeveless onesies because they were on clearance.  We didn't realize they would be our go-to outfits for all excursions.  And that Simon would look so cool in them.

Demon Child

At my mom's group on Sunday, the group leader warned us that most babies are especially fussy at six weeks.  I'm pretty sure Simon heard her and thought, "Hey, that sounds like fun!"

After being a relatively easy baby for six weeks (except for that whole tricky tongue thing), Simon's now doing this more often:

IDONTKNOWWHATSWRONGBUTIDONTLIKEIT!!!

My group leader explained that the fussiness is due to normal GI development, so Bradley and I are patiently "bicycling" out Simon's gas (i.e. pumping his legs), and last night we experienced what we're now referring to as "Poopageddon" (I'll leave the visual aids to your imagination).  But Simon didn't cry during this event.  In fact, he looked quite pleased with himself.  The little monster.

Making progress

Something we hadn't planned on, but which makes perfect sense: medical professionals take vacations during the summer.  As a result, we've now met every lactation consultant in the city.  This isn't a bad situation, though, since they each offer different tips and suggestions.  The one we saw last week helped us work on overcoming Simon's strong preference for the bottle.  The trick is to distract him enough to stop his crying and allow his latching instincts to kick in.  Unfortunately, this entails me holding him like a football and patting his butt while endlessly pacing the hallway.  This doesn't allow me to get much else done, but my arms are definitely getting stronger.  Also, we're now averaging 4+ successful feedings a day, up from zero.

Of course we're still supplementing with formula, but it's good to know I'm providing nourishment too.  Unlike the bottle, it's hard to tell how much food he's getting from me, but the subsequent celebratory naps are a good sign that Simon is satisfied.

Fashion Friday: Squeaky Clean

Welcome to another edition of Fashion Friday here on Simon Says.  (Gee, Friday already?  Where did the last three days go?!)  This week's topic: bath robes.

You've already seen Simon in the bath (with modesty cloth, of course), but what about afterwards?  Well, the cuteness continues thanks to a gift from Aunt Carolyn.

I didn't even know robes came this small.  And with booties.  Booties!  Obviously there's some room to grow, but I couldn't resist using it now.  And Simon seems to like it.  He cries from being cold when the bath ends, but he calms right down once we wrap him up.

Besides the decoration you can see, there's also embroidery hidden by his arm that says "Squeaky Clean."  We tried to photograph it, but Simon was uncooperative.
